The new PETER building was built between 1875 and 1877 by local architect Joseph Goddard, a partner of the Leicester firm of Goddard and Paget who designed many important buildings in Leicester, including the Clock Tower, churches, houses and schools. It was built as a gentleman’s club known as the ‘The Leicestershire Club’. Still in use in the late 1970s, after this, it was used as a restaurant for thirty years and it became a nightclub in 2003. Many of the original features are still in place, and the building is Grade II listed.
